PPP
Point-to-Point Protocol. A protocol that provides connections between routers and between hosts and networks over synchronous and asynchronous circuits. PPP was designed to work with network layer protocols like IP, IPX, and AppleTalk Remote Access (ARA) protocol and relies on the Link Control Protocol (LCP) and Network Control Protocol (NCP). PPP also has built-in security mechanisms, such as the Challenge Authentication Protocol (CHAP) and Password Handshake Authentication Protocol (PAP). See also SLIP.
