The transport protocol for this network user: PPP or SLIP.
|
Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) |
A protocol that allows a computer to connect to the Internet with a standard dial-up telephone line and a high-speed modem. With PPP you enjoy most of the benefits of a direct connection, including the ability to use graphical interfaces such as Netscape. |
|
Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP) |
A protocol that is used to connect computers running IP over a standard telephone line and a high-speed modem. SLIP is being superseded by PPP, but is still used. |
