(May 28, 1997)

Introduction

This Release Note describes Lucent ChoiceNet server release 1.0.2. This upgrade is recommended to all sites running previous releases of ChoiceNet, and is available at no charge from our FTP site ftp://ftp.livingston.com/pub/le/software/.

Lucent ChoiceNet server 1.0.2 is now available in binary form for BSD/OS 2.0, SGI IRIX 5.2, IRIX 6.3, Linux 1.2.13 (ELF), Linux 2.0.30, IBM RS6000 AIX 4.1.4, Digital Alpha OSF/1 T3.0, HP/UX 10.01, SunOS 4.1.4, Solaris 2.5.1, and Solaris x86 2.5.1.

This release supports both Linux 1.2 and 2.0, and IRIX 5.2 and 6.3. The next release after this one may be the last release for Linux 1.2.13 and SGI IRIX 5.2. Future binary releases (as well as this one) will run on Linux 2.0 and IRIX 6.3.

ChoiceNet 1.0.2 Changes

  • Linux 2.0.30 and IRIX 6.3 are now supported platforms.

  • ChoiceNet 1.0.1 had a bug where dynamically downloaded filters would stop being downloaded after a while, and the server had to be killed and restarted. This problem is fixed in ChoiceNet 1.0.2.

  • ChoiceNet on Solaris x86 2.5.1 now stores access lists using GDBM instead of NDBM, to avoid a problem with the native NDBM libraries. In accordance with the Free Software Foundation's GNU Public LIcense, source code for GDBM is available from ftp://prep.ai.mit.edu/pub/gnu.

ChoiceNet 1.0.2 Installation

FTP the ChoiceNet distribution for your platform from ftp://ftp.livingston.com/pub/le/software and then follow the installation instructions in the ChoiceNet Administrator's Guide. Use caution when updating to avoid overwriting your existing files!

  • The following example shows the commands to update an existing ChoiceNet server on SunOS 4.1.4.

    -mkdir /var/tmp/cn102
    -cd /var/tmp/cn102
    -ftp ftp.livingston.com
    -(enter anonymous)
-(enter your e-mail address; it will not echo)
    -binary
    -cd /pub/le/software/sun4
    -get choicenet_1.0.2_sun4_4.1.tar.Z cn.tar.Z
    -quit
    -uncompress cn.tar.Z
    -tar xvf cn.tar
    -rm cn.tar
    -mv /etc/choicenet/filterd /etc/choicenet/filterd.old
    -mv /etc/choicenet/filterd /etc/choicenet/buildlist.old
    -mv /etc/choicenet/filterd /etc/choicenet/dumplist.old
    -mv filterd buildlist dumplist /etc/choicenet

(If you are on Solaris x86, you must rebuild all your lists using buildlist before running the new filterd.)

    (kill the existing filterd)

    	-/etc/choicenet/filterd

  • If you have any problems, report them to Lucent InterNetworking Systems Technical Support, and be sure to mention that you're running filterd version 1.0.2.
